Xi says BRICS expansion historic, new starting point for cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivers an important speech at a press conference during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on August 24. BRICS leaders agreed on August 24 to invite six countries, namely Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to join the group (XINHUA)

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on August 24 that the BRICS expansion is historic and a new starting point for BRICS cooperation.

Xi made the remarks at a press conference during the 15th BRICS Summit after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that six countries, namely Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, were invited to become new BRICS members.
